Support is found here; help us continue this critical support for Central Virginia through a donation to the YWCA during the Allstate Purple Purse Competition! The Allstate Foundation sponsors this friendly crowd-raising fundraiser from October 2 – October 31, 2018!
Your YWCA, established in 1912, provides programs to Central Virginia focused on eliminating racism and empowering women. Our Domestic Violence Prevention Program (DVPP) is our largest contribution to our community’s health and safety. DVPP provides safe refuge for women and children escaping violent homes through our two shelters located in the City of Lynchburg and Altavista, Virginia: Sadler House, established in 1978, and Frannie’s House – established in 2010. Each year, DVPP protects roughly 250 women and children by providing safe shelter and serves over 10,000 individuals (men, women, and children).
DVPP provides emergency shelters and food with 24-hour staff on-site; a 24-hour hotline; support groups open to the public; case management and court advocacy for victims; community education and awareness through presentations and brochures; Central Virginia’s only Children’s Supervised Visitation Center at the Town Center.
YWCA’s Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP) exists to ensure that survivors of sexual violence are provided the opportunity and means with which to recover from physical and psychological trauma. SARP is dedicated to providing free crisis intervention, support, advocacy, and information to survivors of sexual assault and abuse as well as to family members and friends. SARP is also dedicated to raising public awareness of sexual assault and personal safety. Services are offered 24 hours per day, seven days a week to residents of Lynchburg and Danville, and the Counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, Halifax, and Pittsylvania.
